The Carolina Panthers are expected to receive one of the top five picks in the third round of the NFL draft from the New York Jets in exchange for defensive tackle Kris Jenkins.
The Panthers are also expected to receive a fifth-round pick.
The deal hasn't been formally announced yet, but that should happen later today.
Carolina was anxious to trade Jenkins before owing him a $1 million roster bonus. The trade clears about $3 million in salary cap room for this season.
The Panthers also tried to deal Jenkins before last year's draft, but their demand for a first-round pick wasn't met. The most the St. Louis Rams were willing to give up at that time was believed to be a second-rounder.
Today's move vaults Damione Lewis into the starting lineup at defensive tackle with Maake Kemoeatu. The Panthers will be looking for depth at defensive tackle and today are hosting a visit from Rod Coleman, who was recently released by Atlanta.
The Jets are bringing in Jenkins to play nose tackle in their 3-4 defense. He played in the 4-3 scheme with Carolina.

F*** the Patriots...

Only way this season would have been better was if the Panthers would have won the SB. Giants are...what can I say...They did it! Congrats to Giants and their fans. And Eli's Great escape and David Tyree's catch? Wow... That's a heart of a team that came to play ladies and gentlemen. Hope my kitties were watching. Best SB ever man...See you next year :-)Monday, February 04, 2008

Panthers: No indication Pats taped our practices
The Carolina Panthers aren’t jumping to any "spygate" conclusions after a newspaper reported that the New England Patriots illegally taped the St. Louis Rams prior to the 2002 Super Bowl.
In its Saturday editions, the Boston Herald cited a source saying a Patriots employee taped the Rams’ final walkthrough practice the day before Super Bowl XXXVI in 2002. New England was a heavy underdog to St. Louis, but upset the Rams 20-17 to win the first of three championships in a four-year span.
The Patriots denied the allegation Saturday.

Patriots, NFL deny allegation New England taped Rams' final walkthrough before 2002 Super Bowl |
PHOENIX (AP) -- A member of the New England Patriots' video staff taped the St. Louis Rams' last walkthrough before the 2002 Super Bowl, a Boston newspaper reported Saturday.
The NFL, however, said it was satisfied this was not another Spygate.
"We were aware of the rumor months ago and looked into it. There was no evidence of it on the tapes or in the notes produced by the Patriots, and the Patriots told us it was not true," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told The Associated Press.
Citing an unidentified source, the Boston Herald reported that a Patriots employee recorded the Rams' walkthrough at the Superdome in the New Orleans a day before the Super Bowl. New England beat the heavily favored Rams 20-17 its first NFL title.
