I want a rematch

That was a heartbreaker, but we did some good things.

Rematch!

January 18, 2009

Same place with the same G-Men.

If we make it that far, we will beat them.

Saints next week is a trap game though. We need to shake this off and come ready to take the NFC south. If that does not happen, we can kiss our bye week good bye and take the long road :-)

This is a great year to be a Panther fan man :-)

The greatest regular season in Franchise history

If we beat the G-Men in NY this coming Sunday, we'll clinch the #1 seed in the NFC.

I am numb man.

I learned the rules of football early '96 when Dallas beat Pittsburgh to win the Super bowl. My dad got me into football. Shortly after that, it was decided that my 18 year old youthful energy would be channeled best outside the bright lights of DC.

On to Charlotte I went…

For whatever reason such as the great season this expansion franchise was having in its second season, I instantly took interest in the Carolina Panthers when they beat the 49ers to take the NFC West crown. That interest was cemented into full fledged fanaticism after they beat the world champ Dallas Cowboys in their 1st ever play-off game.

I have watched more than 90% of their games since.

The Panther blue I was injected in '96 is still pumping through the Veins of my skinny ass. That was the same season we went undefeated at our home turf of Ericsson Stadium as it was called back then. We never went undefeated again until...yes...this year.

Yesterday we achieved a perfect regular season home record at Bank of America stadium after the win over Denver.

After the glory in ’96 came one painful year after another with the exception of '99; the year of Steve Beuerlein's Lambeau leap and the sick offense we had during the 2nd half of the season.

And of course, there was the atrocious 1-15 season in 2001, which was my last year in Charlotte.

I got cable(DirectTV) for the sole purpose of getting the NFL Sunday Ticket and watching my team in the summer of '03. I was barely making rent and the monthly payment to keep DirectTV.

But that investment was rewarded man as the '03 season saw the cardiac cats and that improbable Super bowl run. I subjected my ex-girlfriend through a lot during that emotional roller coaster of a season. She had to watch the games with me. I made her record games and stuff. That season was capped with heartbreak in the Super bowl. The same super bowl that featured Janet Jackson’s titties, a naked streaker and a thrilling game that we lost :-(

Then there was the disappointment in ’04 after Smitty broke his leg in the season opener. Smitty came back the next year to get the triple crown (lead the league in yards, catches and TDs: a feat accomplished only by Jerry Rice and Sterling Sharpe). That was another great season capped by an NFC championship drubbing by Seattle. I still think we would have beaten them if DeShaun Foster didn’t get hurt.

Bad year in '06.

I watched our season go down the drain as Jake was lost for the season while rocking my raggedy-a$ Julius Peppers Jersey @ hooters in downtown Long Beach.

And now, this...

And now this???

And now This!!!

I don't know how to act man. I just need to realize this moment and enjoy the process. I've had so much love for this team since '96. I think this may be the year baby :-). This team will kill me one day. I can see myself having a stroke later in life while watching this team.

I would not have it any other way. I love this team.

GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have arrived

-Complete domination of one of the best NFL defenses in the 4th quarter
-With that type of insane running game, we’re unstoppable
-Jake still needs to stop screwing around
-What a great win
-Even in '03 i don't remember being this pumped up
-This team will kill me one day

Let’s get Denver

We're getting' play-off ready

I've been gone 4 a while, but make no mistake about it. Panther fever is as high as ever until it kills me.

What a game against Green bay man. Smitty adds to his repertoire of spectacular catches. Not to take anything away from Jake, but what makes these catches spectacular is Jake's atrocious throws. Keep throwing it up Jake...Smitty will turn them into ESPN highlights :-)

I saw some grit in that game I have not seen all year. I was starting to think that we may be a one-and-out-in-the-playoffs team, but after that win...Maaan...

That reminds me of Steve Beuerlein's Lambau Leap in '99. Up until that win, I thought Lambeau field was impenetrable, the lions Den...The frozen Tundra ya know.
Last Sunday, I walked into the bar thinking we need a miracle, simply because of the way we have been playing.
That was a big time win. It's win like that that define your season. Mark my words. We'll be unstoppable.
Coming up...With the hated Bucaneers...On the national stage. We need that

In My Opinion

Along with winning at home, here’s what else the Carolina Panthers are doing differently in 2008. They’re coming back.

The biggest deficit the Panthers have ever overcome is 17. They did it twice, against Jacksonville in 2003 and against San Francisco in 2004.

The second biggest deficit the Panthers have overcome to win is 14. The Panthers did that just once before this season, in 1995 against Atlanta.

Jon Beason: Beauty of 'The Beast'
Panthers' linebacker's ferocity and skill envelope the field, but his gentle nature prevails off it

By Scott Fowlersfowler@charlotteobserver.com
Posted: Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008

Watch any Carolina Panthers game nowadays and it is impossible to miss Jon “The Beast” Beason.

At age 23, the Panthers' middle linebacker has turned into a defensive star in his second NFL season.

His sideline-to-sideline speed, coupled with an uncommon maturity and a superb work ethic, have made No.52 a Pro Bowl caliber linebacker and the soul of the Panthers' defense.

The Domination

More to come. What we did to the Chiefs was a felony in 48 States except Missouri and probably Kansas. Outstanding effort. We need to get ready for Tampa next week.
------

PANTHERS 34, CHIEFS 0

It would be easy to explain away Carolina's 34-0 drubbing of Kansas City on Sunday by saying the Chiefs are merely a bad team - one of the NFL's worst.

But that would miss the point that this was precisely the kind of annihilation the Panthers didn't seem capable of the past two seasons when they compiled a disappointing 15-17 record.

Good teams playing at home should put a whipping on inferior opponents, and the Panthers did it in a big way Sunday.

This was a blowout of optimum proportions.

It was the most lopsided win in Carolina history. Kansas City was held to its lowest yardage total (127) in 22 years.

Great Win...

Let's keep it going baby :-). Jake getting NFC offensive player of the week is nice too. NFC South cleaned out the NFC awards this week. Good stuff man. It's official. Jake's arm is fine.

Delhomme, Brooks and Bryant earn NFC weekly honors

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme and a pair of Tampa bay Buccaneers, linebacker Derrick Brooks and kicker Matt Bryant, were named the NFC's top players for Week 4 of the NFL season.

Delhomme was named Offensive Player of the Week after completing 20-of-29 passes for 294 yards and two touchdowns in the Panthers' 24-9 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Delhomme tossed touchdown passes of 56 yards to Steve Smith and 36 yards to Muhsin Muhammad and his 124.8 passer rating was the highest among NFL quarterbacks for the week.

The beatdown

I just wish our D was as aggressive as Minnesota's. They put on a clinic. Hope this game serves as a reminder to us that that we're far from the superbowl ring this year. We are undisciplined. We draw too many penalties. Except for the Chicago game, our secondary has been exposed. That's partly, because of their sup-par play and partly because of lack of a pass-rush by the front four. We can win it all this year still, but we have to do som egworing up really quick before we stare at another 'could-have-been' season.

Panthers falter in the second half, lose 20-10 to Vikings
06:16 AM EDT on Monday, September 22, 2008
By DAVE CAMPBELL

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Gus Frerotte stabilized Minnesota's wobbly passing attack for at least one week, after Antoine Winfield and the rest of defense bailed out their teammates once again after an unproductive first half.

Winfield's sack of Jake Delhomme and subsequent 19-yard fumble return for a touchdown right before halftime spurred the Vikings to a 20-10 victory over Carolina on Sunday to hand the Panthers their first defeat.

Smith defers to teammates again

Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith has watched Carolina win two games without him while he served a two-game suspension for attacking and punching teammate Ken Lucas in training camp. Upon his return, he let them speak for him too, as he declined to speak to the media.

Lucas, as he did shortly after the attack that left him with a broken nose, didn’t shy away.

"I’m going to re-iterate that I truly believe everything I said, whenever the day was, I truly forgave my teammate, my brother," Lucas said. "I have totally forgotten about it. The only time I talk about it is when sombody brings it up to me and I try to shoot it down as much as possible. That was in the past and I don’t want to dwell on it any more. I told him after [Sunday’s victory over Chicago], I’ll see you on Monday, let’s go get this ring together."

We did it again without Smitty

We beat a quality team with an atrocious defense. We scored 17 unanswered points to close out this game. Jonathan Stewart is a bruiser. Reminded me of a smaller Stephen Davis. Good Times. Smitty will be back against the vikings and should have a 200+ yard receiving day.

Panthers rally, improve to 2-0

Looking for a surprise team so far this NFL season? Well, look no further than the Carolina Panthers.

Just when it appeared the Panthers were going to lose all the momentum from their last-second win over the Chargers in Week 1, Carolina rallied from a 17-3 deficit to beat the Bears.

The Play that sent Shockwaved throughout San Diego

Da Bears

Memo to Kyle Orton: You're not exactly Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. You were a hand-off machine when you beat us in 2005....

....And it looks like Kyle Orton is bringing that sick Bears defense back with him too.

I can't talk shit on this one, cuz this is going to be a tough matchup regardless of what is being 'stirred-up'. Most of these types of "controversies", in my opinion, are so that the people in the press will have a job. Moose holds the recods for the longedt TD reception in Suberbowl history(pic of that catch: lower right). I hope Moose has a good game.

----
Muhsin Muhammad's comments create stir for Bears-Panthers
1 day ago
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — When he signed with Chicago, Muhsin Muhammad heard the whispers: It's no fun to be a Bears receiver.

After being released following a disappointing 40-catch season in 2007, Muhammad concluded those folks were right. The franchise in Chicago, Muhammad told Sports Illustrated last month, "is where receivers go to die."
On Sunday, Muhammad will be a significant subplot as his Carolina Panthers prepare to face the Bears, with Muhammad 10 yards shy of 10,000 yards receiving.

"I wasn't the originator of that comment," Muhammad said this week. "It actually was made when I signed with

Chicago. Someone questioned why I went to Chicago because of that comment. I tried to discredit it as much as I could when I was in Chicago. I gave it all I could."
Chicago's rap as a receiver's graveyard stems from the quarterback carousel there. Muhammad played with Kyle Orton, Rex Grossman, Brian Griese and Jeff Blake. All had limited success, and may be why Muhammad's numbers didn't come close to matching his output in his first stint with Carolina.

Orton, who was seen arguing with Muhammad on the sideline on more than one occasion when they were teammates, was asked this week what his reaction was when he heard Muhammad's remark.

"I didn't have one," Orton said, and walked off.

After the Panthers upset San Diego on a last-second touchdown and the Bears routed Indianapolis in their openers, this matchup was already intriguing. The Muhammad angle should guarantee the Bears won't suffer a letdown.

The greatest day in my life so far

This goes up there with that Steve Smith TD in double OT against the Rams in the divisional play-offs 4 years ago. This will be mentioned with the game against Tampa the same year where Kris Jenkins blocked a PAT. This is similar to the season opener that same season when Jake came in after we were down by multiple TDS and rallied the team to a win in the same manner. That season we became known as the Cardiac Cats. I think the Cardiac cats are back. I am extremely elated that I do not want to do this moment an injustice by milking it and blabbing about it.

The Cardiac cats are back.

Oh ya! I was there in person to witness this historical moment for me. When Jake connected with Dante Rosario for the winning TD, I think the players heard me scream, because you could hear a pin drop at Qualcomm stadium. I ran out into the hallway and ran around like a maniac screaming on top of my lungs.

I am exhilarated.

I'll try to post videos. I love this team. I bleed blue!

Jake and Dante Rosario = clutch
D-Will & Jonathan Stewart combo = I see great things in the future for our running game

Great win against one of the best teams in the league. To get respect you gotta do this. Go to a hostile environment where you are not favored to win, and TAKE THE FUCKING WIN!

Panthers stun Chargers on last play

SAN DIEGO – Jake Delhomme said he’d run the play only twice in his six seasons with the Carolina Panthers, and both times were in practice.

But with two seconds remaining and 14 yards left to the end zone in Sunday’s ultra-dramatic season opener at Qualcomm Stadium, the Panthers called “74 Rocket.”

They split five receivers out wide – Nick Goings, D.J. Hackett, Dwayne Jarrett, Muhsin Muhammad and Dante Rosario – and told each of them to run straight to the end zone.

“Five verticals,” said Delhomme. “That happens only at the end of a game and you’ve got to try to throw it in there.”

Fancy pass patterns wouldn’t do because the Chargers, leading by five points, were going to guard the goal line at all costs.

Delhomme said the play seemed to move in slow motion.

His eyes met Rosario’s and Delhomme rifled a pass through three defenders – straight into the middle of the defense, as if aiming at its heart. Rosario, positioned in the back of the end zone, reached up and made the catch like he was wearing glue gloves, stunning the Chargers and their raucous fans and igniting a Carolina celebration.

Lucas: These Panthers could be special

I'm gonna be in San Diego this Sunday.
---
Cornerback Ken Lucas is beginning to think this edition of the Carolina Panthers could be something special.

"I think this year we're walking around with a little swagger now," he said. "That's something you have not seen in the past. We feel like we have what it takes to go out and compete at a high level and do some big things this year

"But we're still flying under the radar; people say we're an OK team, but one game (the preseason blowout of Washington) is not going to earn any respect from anybody. We have to go out and do it week-in and week-out. That's something we have not done since I've been here. We'll win a game, lose a game, and if we're going to get where we're trying to get to this year, we can't afford to play like that.

Reed kicks Steelers past Panthers
Associated Press

PITTSBURGH -- As Carolina's starters left the field following pregame warmups, coach John Fox was waiting with a surprise: They were getting the night off.

It's merely an illusion that, except for Jeff Reed and Rashard Mendenhall, the Pittsburgh Steelers' offense has been resting for a couple of weeks.

Reed kicked his fourth field goal of the game and his eighth in less than a week, a 43-yarder on the last play, and the Steelers beat the Panthers' backups 19-16 on Thursday night in the final exhibition game for both teams.

Carolina, holding out 25 players, didn't do much offensively except for three field goals by John Kasay until No. 3 quarterback Brett Basanez threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Chris Hannon with 1:54 remaining. Fox opted to kick the extra point and try for overtime, something most coaches look to avoid in games that don't count.

"If it there was a little less time I probably would have (gone for a 2-point conversion) but, either way, we were going to have to stop a two-minute drive," Fox said.

Running game rolls in rout of Redskins

By Charles Chandlercchandler@charlotteobserver.com

If the NFL were a stock market, there would be a run on the Carolina Panthers when trading opened Monday morning.

The Panthers had a blue-chip Saturday night exhibition at Bank of America Stadium, thrashing the listless Washington Redskins 47-3.

Carolina set a franchise preseason scoring record, breaking the mark set in a 34-7 win against the New York Giants in 1996.

They tied that record in the first half, then surpassed it early in the third quarter before the starters left the game.

I got a good vibe about this team man :-) Way to go Richard Marshall. DOn't like that chokejob in the 4th quarter though even though it was 3rd and 4th stringers. No one likes goin out like that.

By Charles Chandlercchandler@charlotteobserver.com

PHILADELPHIA Only the lightning that delayed play 58 minutes was more electric than the way Carolina's Richard Marshall turned Philadelphia's trickery into treachery.

In an exhibition Thursday night at Lincoln Financial Field that lasted much longer than either team preferred, the Eagles tried to get cute and paid the price.

Philadelphia had an excellent chance to break a scoreless tie late in the first quarter when ultra-reliable kicker David Akers lined up for a 34-yard field-goal attempt.

In opener, Panthers as good as expected
By Tom Sorensen
Posted: Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008

Tom Sorensen

On defense, it was the tall guy.

Carolina's Julius Peppers lined up at a new position, right end, and overwhelmed second-year tackle Tony Ugoh. It was as if Peppers was accompanied into the Indianapolis backfield by a police escort. He never had to stop, rarely had to slow down and on some plays didn't even have to show his I.D.

On the Colts first series Peppers sacked quarterback Jim Sorgi and forced a fumble that was recovered by defensive end Charles Johnson. On the next series Peppers cruised into the backfield and pressured Sorgi. This time, Sorgi didn't fumble. He was intercepted. Middle linebacker Adam Seward picked off the pass.

Already squashed

But 2 games man...2 games...Use your head man!

Smitty's relapsed

Last time he beat someone down was in 2002. You know he's overdue 4 one dammit. I think it's good for the team tho. They'll squash it. And they'll do great things this year watch :-)

Smitty! You got nothing to prove today. You're the top dog...I mean top cat/panther. Take it easy baby :-)

Steve Smith is my favorite panther of all time, but I'm really mad @ him man. Those people that know me know how I am with my Panthers.

We open the season @ San Diego...My a$$ is there already...But my excitement is kinda down now since Smitty will miss that game and the next one because he decided to re-arrange Ken Lucas' facual features. Fuck you Smitty! The team now will have to show you, and they will, that they can win without your punk-ass. You've already defined your season. You need to do some serious self-redemption on and off the field.

Well, welcome back to my kitties. I need at least 10 wins. And Foxie! You know your job is on the line this season.

Panthers suspend star receiver Smith for two games
Associated Press

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Receiver Steve Smith was suspended two games by the Carolina Panthers after a training camp fight with cornerback Ken Lucas.

Smith, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, will continue to practice when training camp resumes Monday and will be allowed to participate in preseason games, coach John Fox said Saturday.
Steve Smith, WR Carolina Panthers 2007 statistics Rec: 87Yards: 1,002TDs: 7

Lucas, who left the practice field at Wofford College on Friday with ice over his left eye, has a broken nose, Fox said. Smith was kicked out of practice and sent back to Charlotte.

"What (Smith) did was wrong and we take very serious and he is being punished severely for it," Fox said.

The melee came after both players had taken off their helmets in a break for starters during a special teams drill. It was unclear what provoked the fight. While the two have routinely jawed at each other in practice since Lucas signed with Carolina in 2005, they've never come to blows in view of reporters.

Panthers deal Jenkins to Jets for picks
Trade clears about $3 million in salary cap room
CHARLES CHANDLER
cchandler@charlotteobserver.com

The Panthers reportedly have traded defensive tackle Kris Jenkins to the Jets in exchange for draft picks. (JEFF SINER -- jsiner@charlotteobserver.com)

The Carolina Panthers are expected to receive one of the top five picks in the third round of the NFL draft from the New York Jets in exchange for defensive tackle Kris Jenkins.

The Panthers are also expected to receive a fifth-round pick.

The deal hasn't been formally announced yet, but that should happen later today.

Carolina was anxious to trade Jenkins before owing him a $1 million roster bonus. The trade clears about $3 million in salary cap room for this season.

The Panthers also tried to deal Jenkins before last year's draft, but their demand for a first-round pick wasn't met. The most the St. Louis Rams were willing to give up at that time was believed to be a second-rounder.

Today's move vaults Damione Lewis into the starting lineup at defensive tackle with Maake Kemoeatu. The Panthers will be looking for depth at defensive tackle and today are hosting a visit from Rod Coleman, who was recently released by Atlanta.

The Jets are bringing in Jenkins to play nose tackle in their 3-4 defense. He played in the 4-3 scheme with Carolina.

Patriots, NFL deny allegation New England taped Rams' final walkthrough before 2002 Super Bowl
February 2, 2008

PHOENIX (AP) -- A member of the New England Patriots' video staff taped the St. Louis Rams' last walkthrough before the 2002 Super Bowl, a Boston newspaper reported Saturday.

The NFL, however, said it was satisfied this was not another Spygate.

"We were aware of the rumor months ago and looked into it. There was no evidence of it on the tapes or in the notes produced by the Patriots, and the Patriots told us it was not true," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told The Associated Press.

Citing an unidentified source, the Boston Herald reported that a Patriots employee recorded the Rams' walkthrough at the Superdome in the New Orleans a day before the Super Bowl. New England beat the heavily favored Rams 20-17 its first NFL title.

Reason for me to watch the Superbowl

The greatest moment is Panther history was pissed on by the Patriots in Early 2004.

John Kasay shanking that kick-off didn't help either. I was ready to send him death threats that day

We beat Tampa: Always nice :-)

And they got KO-ed in the 1st round at home by the Giants. Priceless...lol

Turns out I am not going to the Superbowl :-( I'll be watching it somewhere rooting for the giants to beat the team that took my only Superbowl.

See you next year.
