The beatdown

I just wish our D was as aggressive as Minnesota's. They put on a clinic. Hope this game serves as a reminder to us that that we're far from the superbowl ring this year. We are undisciplined. We draw too many penalties. Except for the Chicago game, our secondary has been exposed. That's partly, because of their sup-par play and partly because of lack of a pass-rush by the front four. We can win it all this year still, but we have to do som egworing up really quick before we stare at another 'could-have-been' season.

Panthers falter in the second half, lose 20-10 to Vikings
06:16 AM EDT on Monday, September 22, 2008
By DAVE CAMPBELL

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Gus Frerotte stabilized Minnesota's wobbly passing attack for at least one week, after Antoine Winfield and the rest of defense bailed out their teammates once again after an unproductive first half.

Winfield's sack of Jake Delhomme and subsequent 19-yard fumble return for a touchdown right before halftime spurred the Vikings to a 20-10 victory over Carolina on Sunday to hand the Panthers their first defeat.

Way to go Smitty: You too Kenny

Smith defers to teammates again

Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith has watched Carolina win two games without him while he served a two-game suspension for attacking and punching teammate Ken Lucas in training camp. Upon his return, he let them speak for him too, as he declined to speak to the media.

Lucas, as he did shortly after the attack that left him with a broken nose, didn’t shy away.

"I’m going to re-iterate that I truly believe everything I said, whenever the day was, I truly forgave my teammate, my brother," Lucas said. "I have totally forgotten about it. The only time I talk about it is when sombody brings it up to me and I try to shoot it down as much as possible. That was in the past and I don’t want to dwell on it any more. I told him after [Sunday’s victory over Chicago], I’ll see you on Monday, let’s go get this ring together."

We did it again without Smitty

We beat a quality team with an atrocious defense. We scored 17 unanswered points to close out this game. Jonathan Stewart is a bruiser. Reminded me of a smaller Stephen Davis. Good Times. Smitty will be back against the vikings and should have a 200+ yard receiving day.

Panthers rally, improve to 2-0

Looking for a surprise team so far this NFL season? Well, look no further than the Carolina Panthers.

Just when it appeared the Panthers were going to lose all the momentum from their last-second win over the Chargers in Week 1, Carolina rallied from a 17-3 deficit to beat the Bears.

The Play that sent Shockwaved throughout San Diego

Da Bears

Memo to Kyle Orton: You're not exactly Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. You were a hand-off machine when you beat us in 2005....

....And it looks like Kyle Orton is bringing that sick Bears defense back with him too.

I can't talk shit on this one, cuz this is going to be a tough matchup regardless of what is being 'stirred-up'. Most of these types of "controversies", in my opinion, are so that the people in the press will have a job. Moose holds the recods for the longedt TD reception in Suberbowl history(pic of that catch: lower right). I hope Moose has a good game.

Muhsin Muhammad's comments create stir for Bears-Panthers
1 day ago
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — When he signed with Chicago, Muhsin Muhammad heard the whispers: It's no fun to be a Bears receiver.

After being released following a disappointing 40-catch season in 2007, Muhammad concluded those folks were right. The franchise in Chicago, Muhammad told Sports Illustrated last month, "is where receivers go to die."
On Sunday, Muhammad will be a significant subplot as his Carolina Panthers prepare to face the Bears, with Muhammad 10 yards shy of 10,000 yards receiving.

"I wasn't the originator of that comment," Muhammad said this week. "It actually was made when I signed with

Chicago. Someone questioned why I went to Chicago because of that comment. I tried to discredit it as much as I could when I was in Chicago. I gave it all I could."
Chicago's rap as a receiver's graveyard stems from the quarterback carousel there. Muhammad played with Kyle Orton, Rex Grossman, Brian Griese and Jeff Blake. All had limited success, and may be why Muhammad's numbers didn't come close to matching his output in his first stint with Carolina.

Orton, who was seen arguing with Muhammad on the sideline on more than one occasion when they were teammates, was asked this week what his reaction was when he heard Muhammad's remark.

"I didn't have one," Orton said, and walked off.

After the Panthers upset San Diego on a last-second touchdown and the Bears routed Indianapolis in their openers, this matchup was already intriguing. The Muhammad angle should guarantee the Bears won't suffer a letdown.

The greatest day in my life so far

This goes up there with that Steve Smith TD in double OT against the Rams in the divisional play-offs 4 years ago. This will be mentioned with the game against Tampa the same year where Kris Jenkins blocked a PAT. This is similar to the season opener that same season when Jake came in after we were down by multiple TDS and rallied the team to a win in the same manner. That season we became known as the Cardiac Cats. I think the Cardiac cats are back. I am extremely elated that I do not want to do this moment an injustice by milking it and blabbing about it.

The Cardiac cats are back.

Oh ya! I was there in person to witness this historical moment for me. When Jake connected with Dante Rosario for the winning TD, I think the players heard me scream, because you could hear a pin drop at Qualcomm stadium. I ran out into the hallway and ran around like a maniac screaming on top of my lungs.

I am exhilarated.

I'll try to post videos. I love this team. I bleed blue!

Jake and Dante Rosario = clutch
D-Will & Jonathan Stewart combo = I see great things in the future for our running game

Great win against one of the best teams in the league. To get respect you gotta do this. Go to a hostile environment where you are not favored to win, and TAKE THE FUCKING WIN!

Panthers stun Chargers on last play

SAN DIEGO – Jake Delhomme said he’d run the play only twice in his six seasons with the Carolina Panthers, and both times were in practice.

But with two seconds remaining and 14 yards left to the end zone in Sunday’s ultra-dramatic season opener at Qualcomm Stadium, the Panthers called “74 Rocket.”

They split five receivers out wide – Nick Goings, D.J. Hackett, Dwayne Jarrett, Muhsin Muhammad and Dante Rosario – and told each of them to run straight to the end zone.

“Five verticals,” said Delhomme. “That happens only at the end of a game and you’ve got to try to throw it in there.”

Fancy pass patterns wouldn’t do because the Chargers, leading by five points, were going to guard the goal line at all costs.

Delhomme said the play seemed to move in slow motion.

His eyes met Rosario’s and Delhomme rifled a pass through three defenders – straight into the middle of the defense, as if aiming at its heart. Rosario, positioned in the back of the end zone, reached up and made the catch like he was wearing glue gloves, stunning the Chargers and their raucous fans and igniting a Carolina celebration.

Lucas: These Panthers could be special

I'm gonna be in San Diego this Sunday.
---
Cornerback Ken Lucas is beginning to think this edition of the Carolina Panthers could be something special.

"I think this year we're walking around with a little swagger now," he said. "That's something you have not seen in the past. We feel like we have what it takes to go out and compete at a high level and do some big things this year

"But we're still flying under the radar; people say we're an OK team, but one game (the preseason blowout of Washington) is not going to earn any respect from anybody. We have to go out and do it week-in and week-out. That's something we have not done since I've been here. We'll win a game, lose a game, and if we're going to get where we're trying to get to this year, we can't afford to play like that.
